Amanda grew up on the banks of the Mississippi River in Bellevue, Iowa where she discovered her love of art. She continued her education at Iowa State University where she got a BA in Apparel Design and Art & Design.
After living on the west coast for a number of years, Amanda has settled back in Iowa with her family. She has taken a short break from showing art in recent years to give birth to her two children.
Amanda is currently working form her home studio to create her newest body of work that explores her favorite part about being a mom; making those around her feel seen, safe, and loved.
Artist Statement
With the world increasingly becoming more uncertain, angry, and violent, I have been looking for what I can control and make better. I have found that focusing on my family and home by doing things like gardening, cooking, and spending quality time with family very therapeutic. I’m on a constant quest for cozy. Not just for myself, but for my loved ones too.
The still lifes I create evoke feeling of coziness, safety, and being taken care of. I relish in the art while making it and hope that viewers feel the same sense of calm.
